The Gospel for this week from Luke 1:38-56 tells of Mary's visit to her cousin Elizabeth. It includes Mary's hymn of praise, usually known by its first word in Latin, Magnificat. As Christmas draws closer, it is appropriate to spend time reflecting upon the background of Christ's Birth. Elizabeth and Mary are different in their ages and situations, but both are examples of humble submission to divine plans for redemption. They are also women of strong religious faith. They accept the call of God and submit to His plans. They trust in God to work in their lives. May we do the same!
